Harriet The Spy
A very long time ago a girl called Harriet came into my life and inspired me to write about my life. Harriet wrote down what she saw and documented every single detail and emotion. I went onto write my own journal and many more after that...

It’s funny how my seven-year-old self knew back then that the one thing I loved most in the whole world was writing. The only comfort I have ever found is in pouring my thoughts down onto paper, it doesn’t provide a cure, but it does provide solace. The comfort in knowing there is always somewhere to escape, the magic of storing memories and the promise of secrecy.
Sometimes I worry that writing is a lost art, and the value of writing has been replaced by technology. But then I remember why I started blogging, why I find such joy in writing letters to penpals, and why I still have that burning passion inside of me.

Harriet M Welsch - I have a lot to thank you for.

I used to keep diaries. I read some entries back and can remember exactly how I felt when writing. They never lose their meaning, that's the beauty of the handwritten word x
ReplyDeleteALICE I HAVE IT ON DVD! Amazing film. I wanted to be her. She is the reason I did an autobiography module at uni! xxx
ReplyDeleteI went to see that in the cinema with my nan :) xx
ReplyDeleteOMG I used to love this film- I taped it from the TV once onto a VHS and watched it over and over. I need to find the DVD.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen this film! (MUST WATCH!) I always kept endless diaries, journals, books full of lists, drawings anything and everything to jot down how I was feeling they are great to look back on now, however my teen diaries I may just have to burn *cringe* <3 xxx
ReplyDeleteOoh I've never seen that. My inspiration to write a diary came about 5 years ago when I was reading a lot of autobiographies/diaries/books of letters from the 1930s and 1940s and it really struck me that I wouldn't be leaving behind anything except a really messy Hotmail inbox! Not that I think anyone is ever going to want to write my autobiography, but you know what I mean...
ReplyDeleteI've never read/seen it, but I really want to now! I love writing too; blog posts, letters, journal entries... xx
ReplyDeleteI love Harriet the Spy! For obvious reasons, it's always nice to share your name with someone that awesome!
ReplyDeleteAhh I've never seen it before, I must correct that!
